How to Build a Castle

Posted in Uncategorized  by admin

Of course building a castle will take time, money and a lot of patience. But it can be done. The key to success is as much in the preparation as in the building.

Required Tools and Materials

Blueprint
Heavy machinery
Building material (sand, cement, stones etc)
Excavating tools

Design or Get a Blueprint

If you’re going to make the blueprint, it has to be very detailed. Include all the measurements, from the size of the blocks to the windows. The plan must indicate how many rooms will be built, the towers etc. The courtyard, the gardens and the moat must be included in the plans.

Get the Personnel and Equipment Ready

Before you start building a castle, assemble all the equipment and personnel. It goes without saying that the building permit needs to be secured. Follow all the guidelines for safety during the construction process.

Find the Right Site

A flat level area will make building easier. There should be plenty of trees and greenery as they add to the ambience. A castle will look even better if there’s a mountain in the background. Another attractive site is one with a lake or facing the sea.

Constructing the Moat and Groundwork

The moat was intended for defensive purposes in the past. Today you
can use it to decorate your castle. After the area is dug, put some cement around it. Decorate the moat with some stones when it’s finished. Make the foundation by layering down some cement.

Apply the concrete over the entire foundation area so you can start building a castle. The courtyard can have concrete or dirt; it’s up to you.

Let the concrete dry before proceeding.

Layering the Stones

Ensure each building block is cut down to the specified size. The stones should be placed side by side. When the first layer is complete, apply some mortar in the gaps. You also need to apply the mortar on the top parts.

Make sure the mortar you lay down is even before putting in the other pieces. These building blocks should partly cover the other pieces. The staggering effect fortifies the stones.

Adding the Roof, Door and Windows

When building a castle, the roof is added last. It can be made of the same material as the walls. The windows and doors can be fitted as when making a house. When the castle is finished, you can add a flag. Put some on the guard towers too, for a classical look.

Tips and Warnings

You need to install plumbing and electricity if you’re going to live here. Wiring a castle is harder than a house due to structural differences. Hire an electrician so the whole place can be wired properly.

Take all necessary precautions during the building process. If you’re supervising the project, make certain everyone follows the instructions on the blueprint.

It goes without saying that building a castle will take a lot of work. But if you persevere, the project is doable. If you set your mind to it, your dream castle will soon be a reality.
